Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO reporting name: Fresco) is a high-subsonic fighter aircraft produced in the USSR from 1952 and operated by numerous air forces in many variants. It is an advanced development of the very similar appearing MiG-15 of the Korean War. The basic MiG-17 was a general-purpose day fighter, armed with three cannons, one 37mm cannon and two 23mm. It could also act as a fighter-bomber, but its payload was considered light relative to other aircraft of the time. Later variants had radar and air-to-air missiles.

The MiG-17 equipped the Arab Air Forces from the 1950s until well into the 80s. Hundreds of "17s" were purchased from various sources including the Czechs and the Russians. After 1967 the Egyptians camouflaged their aircraft with a variety of color schemes applied over their natural metal finishes. One particular scheme was called the "Nile Valley" and was basically a three color scheme of green, sand and Black-Green. The Egyptians engineered additional hard-points to carry bombs under the fuselage and wing-mounted rails equipped with SAKR rockets.

The excellent model and textures were created by Pedro. The aircraft in our next release will have many different variants. For example we will have an Mig-17 with rocket pods and another one will have bombs. We also hope to create a Syrian and Iraqi textures in addition to the Egyptian texture we show here.
